The work we are doing in Arusha Tanzania is the greatest opportunity and challenge of our lifetime. Our faith is strengthening and our courage stronger as we continue to believe God’s promise that He is building the dormitory for the students at the Arusha Bible College. Your friendship and support bless and carry us.
The dorm is close to being completed but $30,000 is needed for the next phase; the plastering of the walls and finishing works. The day is getting closer when we will stand with our brothers and sisters in Arusha to dedicate the dormitory for God’s purposes.
This week a story of Peter Cartwright, the famous nineteenth century Circuit Rider preacher, came across my desk. I am a descendent of this bold preacher from the Bruton side of my family. Cartwright was instrumental in ushering in the Second Great Spiritual Awakening in the mid 1800’s. He was a colorful character and fearless…two characteristics used to describe my dad, J. Paul Bruton by those that knew him.
In 1818, the story is told that Peter Cartwright was preaching at a large camp meeting. Somebody came to him and said, “Preacher, you need to know that Andrew Jackson is in the audience, so make sure that whatever you say is not offensive. He said, “Thank you for telling me that.” He got to the pulpit and said, “I have been told that Andrew Jackson is in this congregation and I’ve been asked to carefully guard what I’m going to say. I want to begin by saying that Andrew Jackson will go to hell if he doesn’t repent of his sins.” You could have heard a pin drop. After the service, Andrew Jackson walked up to Peter Cartwright and said, “If I had a regiment of men like you, I could whip the world.”
At the end of his life, on May 29th, 1845, Jackson declared: “Sir I am in the hands of a merciful God. I have full confidence in his goodness and mercy…The Bible is true…Upon that sacred volume I rest my hope for eternal salvation, through the merits and blood of our blessed Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ….I go but a short time before you, and …I hope and trust to meet you all in Heaven, both white and black.”
Andrew Jackson’s profession of faith was influenced by the fearless courage and boldness of Peter Cartwright.
Thank God for men and women who stand with fearless courage. Together we are endowed with a heritage of faith endued by the fire of God’s Spirit to march forward to see the wonderful sons and daughters of Tanzania march into Heaven’s gates. They will be greeted by a “great cloud of witnesses”. You are a part of this moment and we bless you for your partnership with African Moons.
Thank those of you who are now supporting African Moon monthly. Continue to believe with us for the next $30,000. Pray, give and encourage one another for our Lord is soon returning.
“Take charge! Take heart! Don’t be anxious or get discouraged. God, my God is with you in this; he won’t walk off and leave you in the lurch. He’s at your side until every last detail is completed for conducting the worship of God.”
