But Yeshua himself called them and he said to them, “Let the children come to me and do not refuse them, because the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these.”

HANCE KARATA’S STORY

Hance Karata was born on the 16th of April 2012. His mom was a single parent, but unfortunately she could not provide for him. After two years of struggling, not knowing what to do, she decided to take Hance to live with his grandmother. A two-year old was too much for his grandmother to properly care for. With a heavy heart, she was forced to seek assistance from the Tanzanian Social Welfare Office.

The Social Welfare Officials decided to place Hance under the care of Shalom Centre. Shalom Centre had established a very positive reputation with the Arusha authorities. He was only two years old; since then Shalom Centre is where he calls home.

This is Hance when I first met him. He led the group in song; “I wash my face, I comb my hair, I brush my teeth, I put on my clothes and then I
run and play.” My heart instantly took him in.

He started Primary School in 2018 at the age of six; receiving a scholarship from African Moons. Every school year African Moons has provided a scholarship for Hance. He graduated from Junior High with grade A performance and qualified for Secondary School Education. It is not a given that a child is able to attend high school; grades determine if a student can continue his education.

He started his Secondary Education in 2025 at Kilasara Secondary School (Private School). Shalom Centre saw potential in Hance; the decision was made to send him to a private school in order to maximize his chances of performing well by having the best school facilities.

Hance wants to become a doctor in the future. He will take the National High School Examinations in November 2026. His scores will determine the next step for his dream of becoming a doctor

By faith we can see God blessing Hance and guiding his steps. Our hearts are filled with love for Hance and the children of Shalom

“Shalom Centre appreciates the support provided by African moons, lives of the most vulnerable children like Hance are being transformed, hopes are restored and a future is guaranteed.”
